Accused PA Hotel Shooter Nabbed In Texas By US Marshals

One of two men accused of shooting a 16-year-old girl at a Central Pennsylvania hotel has been arrested, authorities announced on Thursday, Aug. 31.

Joseph Angel Rivera Jr. was apprehended in Victoria, Texas by members of the Victoria City Police Department and US Marshall's Office on July 21, 2023. 

The shooting he is accused of being involved in "seriously injured" a 16-year-old girl at the Budget Host Inn located at 2140 Lincoln Highway East in Lancaster around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, East Lampeter Township police explained at the time. 

"Officers arrived within three minutes" and found the girl  "in a second-floor room with a gunshot wound to her left leg," police say. 

The officers applied a tourniquet before she was taken by an ambulance to a local hospital, as detailed in the release. 

"Although her injuries are serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening; the victim’s name is not being released," police added.

Two men fired multiple rounds from handguns into the closed door of the motel room and fled prior to the officers' arrival, police determined their preliminary investigation. 

The video shows the two men "as well as a vehicle associated with them," police say. 

Rivera was identified as one of the two men and a warrant for his arrest was issued on July 19, 2023.

He was charged with two counts of Criminal Attempt Homicide, Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License, and Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure.

He was extradited back to Lancaster on Aug. 6, 2023 and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Bruce Roth who set bail at $500,000.00 before Rivera was remanded to the Lancaster County Prison.
